Global Citizen Taps Influential As Its Official Creator Partner

Published on September 27, 2026

In a move that underscores the growing influence of social media personalities over traditional entertainment icons, Global Citizen has officially named Influential, the prominent influencer marketing company owned by Publicis Groupe, as its global creator partner. The announcement, made on Friday, marks a pivotal moment for both organizations as they seek to harness the power of digital creators to drive social change and maintain the relevance of global advocacy in an era of fragmented media consumption.

The partnership comes at a time of significant growth and consolidation within the influencer marketing sector. Influential, which was founded in 2013, has rapidly ascended to become a dominant force in the industry. Its trajectory was further accelerated earlier this year when it was acquired by Publicis, one of the "Big Six" global advertising and communications conglomerates, in a deal that signaled the mainstreaming of creator-led marketing strategies. Since the acquisition, Influential’s proprietary opt-in creator network has seen explosive growth, expanding from approximately 5 million creators at the time of the deal to a staggering 18 million today. This massive scale provides Global Citizen with unprecedented access to diverse audiences across various platforms, interests, and geographic regions.

The shift toward a creator-centric strategy is not merely a tactical adjustment but a response to a fundamental change in how younger generations, particularly Gen Z and Millennials, consume information and form allegiances. While traditional celebrities like Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Coldplay have long served as the primary magnets for Global Citizen’s events, the "celebrity effect" has begun to face challenges in an environment where authenticity and peer-to-peer connection are highly valued. Creators, who often build intimate, daily relationships with their followers, are seen as more relatable and trustworthy intermediaries for complex social and political messages.

The first major activation under this new partnership is set to take place at this year’s Global Citizen Festival on Saturday. The event, which coincides with the United Nations General Assembly in New York, serves as a critical platform for world leaders, philanthropists, and activists to make commitments toward ending extreme poverty, addressing climate change, and promoting equity. To amplify these messages, Influential is deploying a cohort of roughly 20 high-impact creators to provide on-the-ground coverage and engagement from the festival grounds.

Among the creators tapped for this inaugural activation are the popular duo Ling and Lam, known for their engaging content that often blends humor, lifestyle, and cultural commentary. According to Chris Detert, the Chief Communications Officer of Influential, these creators will be tasked with more than just documenting the musical performances. They are expected to translate the festival’s core advocacy goals into content that resonates with their specific audiences, bridging the gap between high-level policy discussions and the everyday digital experiences of their followers.
